  Meaning of Important Words and Concepts
1- Agriculture: The art of science of cultivating soil , raising crops and rearing livestock including fishing and forests .
2- Commercial agriculture: Farming in which farmer grows the crop with the aim of selling it in the market.
3- Dry farming : Dry farming is adopted in scanty rainfall areas .Such types of crops are grown which requires less irrigation facilities.
4- Extensive agriculture :  Agriculture in which the agriculturist tries to get the greatest output by bringing more and more new land areas under cultivation.
5- Intensive agriculture :  In this type of farming high dose of biochemical inputs and irrigation are used for obtaining higher production .
6 - Dairy Farming : A kind of agriculture in which major emphasis is given to the breeding and rearing of cattles for milk .
7- Wet Farming : A kind of farming which depends on rain .
8- Mixed Farming :  Farming in which animals are also used on the farm while raising crops.
9- Multiple Cropping :  When two or more than two crops are grown simultaneously on the same field .
10- Shifting agriculture:  It is a type of agriculture in which farmers clear the forest land and use it for growing crops . The crops are grown for 2 or 3 years . When the fertility of the soil decreases, the farmer shifts to another land .
11- Subsistence farming: Farming in which the main production is consumed by the farmer's household.
12 - Slash and Burn : It is a method of farming that involves clearing land by destroying and burning all the trees and plants in it . 
13- Plantation Agriculture : A large scale farming of one crop resembling the factory production, using capital investment and application of modern science and technology in cultivating, processing and marketing the final products .
14 - Rotation of Crops : A systematic succession of different crops on a given price of land carried out in order to avoid exhaustion of the soil .
15- Cash crops - Cash crops are those which are grown by the farmers to sell in the market.
16- Animal Husbandry : The rearing of animals for agricultural activities and dairy.
17 - Millets :  A cereal grown in warm countries and regions with poor soils , bearing a large crop of small seeds which are mainly used to make flour.
18- Gross cultivated area : The net sown area and the land cultivated more than once , together make the gross cultivated area .
19- Net sown area : The land cultivated in a year is called the net sown area.
20 - Green Revolution :  It refers to the application of modern techniques and canal and tube-well irrigation on account of which production of foodgrains.
21- White revolution : It is also known as Operation Flood and is related to the increase in the production of milk.
22- Intercropping : Raising of crops in association with each other or one another on the same field at the same time is called Intercropping.
23- Sericulture:  Rearing of silkworms and producing raw silk .
 24- Horticulture :  Intensive cultivation of vegetables, fruits and flower crops .
25- Fallow Land : Leaving the field free without growing a crop for recoupment of soil fertility.
