Explain of Important Words
1 : Resource: Everything available in the environment that can be used to satisfy our needs provided it is technologically accessible economically feasible and culturally acceptable is called ' resource ' .
2 : Biotic Resource: These are those which have life and are obtained from biosphere. Forest , agricultural crops,bplants , animals and birds etc .
3: Abiotic Resource : All those resources which are composed of non living things are called abiotic resources as : land ,water ,soil etc .
4 : Afforestation : It's mean planting trees .
5 : Fallow Land : It is a cultivable land which is uncropped or partially cropped for one or more reasons so that it can regain its fertility.
6: Gully Erosion : It takes place when running water cuts deep ravines in the absence of vegetation. This type of erosion makes the soil unfit for cultivation.
7 : Land degradation: Rendering the land unfit for cultivation is called degradation of land .
8 : Renewable Resources : These are the resources which can be renewed or reproduced by physical , mechanical or chemical processes in a given period of time . Ex... Solar energy.
9 : Non - renewable Resources: The resources which take millions of years in their formation and occur over a very long geographical time .These are those resources which once used ,can not be replenished .Ex. .... Coal , petroleum, mineral etc.
10 : Man made Resources : These are those resources which are created by human beings with the help of machines .
11 : Natural Resources : Natural endowments in the form of land , water , vegetation and minerals are called natural resources. These are free gifts of nature.
12 : Ravines or Bad Lands : A narrow vally created by the action of running waters. This is a land which is unsuitable for cultivation due to soil erosion.
13 : Resource Planning : It is a technique or skill of proper and cautious utilisation of resources.
14 : Stock : These are the materials in the environment which have the potential to satisfy the human needs , but could not be used as the human beings do not have the appropriate technology.
15: Individual Resources: Resources which are owned by private individuals are known as individual resources. Ex.. Plot , fields , house , car , book etc.
16 : Community owned resources: The resources which are accessible to all the members of the community. Example.. village, town , ponds , roads , parks .
17 : National Resources: All the resources which are under the control of government are known as national resources.
18 : International resources : These resources are owned and regulated by international institutions. The oceanic resources beyond 200 nautical miles of Exclusive economic zone belong to open ocean and no individual country can utilise .
19 : Potential Resources: Resources which are found in a region, but have not been utilised due to lack of capital or other reasons .
20 : Fossil fuels : The energy resources obtained from fossil burried in rocks.
21 : Desertification : Degradation of land in dry areas that can ultimately lead to desert like condition.
22 : Humus : The amount of organic matter in soil .
23 : Environment : The condition that affect the behaviour and development of living and non living things .
24: Arable Land : Land currently ploughed and cultivated with crops .
27 : Soil : The uppermost layer of the earth's crust useful for growing crops .
28: Soil Formation : Disintegration and decomposition of rock due to process of weather and Erosion.
29: Soil Erosion : The removal of top fertile soil cover due to various reason like wind , glacier and water is called soil erosion. Loss of top layer of nutrient rich soil .
30: Conservation : The protection of plants , animal ,natural areas , important buildings etc from the damaging effects of human activities.
31 : Recycle: To convert waste into reusable material.
32: Gross Cropped area : Area sown more than once in an agricultural year plus net sown area is known as gross cropped area .
33 : Sustainable Economic Development : It means development should take place without damaging the environment and development in the present should not compromise with the needs of the future generations .
