Table Manners ( Khane kee Tameez hai bhee ya nahi )

Table manners are essential for showing respect and consideration towards others during a meal. Here are some important table manners to keep in mind:
  1. Napkin usage: Place the napkin on your lap immediately upon sitting down. Use it to wipe your mouth or fingers as needed, and always remember to dab rather than wipe. Place the napkin neatly on the table to the left of your plate when finished.

  2. Utensil usage: Start with the outermost utensils and work your way inwards as each new course is served. Hold utensils properly, with the knife in your right hand and the fork in your left. When not in use, rest them on your plate, not on the table.

  3. Chew with your mouth closed: It's considered impolite to chew with your mouth open. Take small bites, and chew quietly and slowly before swallowing.

  4. Avoid talking with food in your mouth: Wait until you have swallowed your food before engaging in conversation. This helps prevent food from being sprayed or seen while speaking.

  5. Wait for everyone to be served: Begin eating only after everyone at the table has been served or when the host or hostess signals to start. It shows consideration for others.

  6. Use polite language: Speak courteously and avoid discussing unpleasant or controversial topics during the meal. Be mindful of your tone and volume of voice, ensuring it is appropriate for the setting.

  7. Use utensils appropriately: Use utensils for their intended purpose. For example, use a knife to cut food, rather than your fingers, and use a spoon for soup or dessert.

  8. Practice good posture: Sit up straight at the table, keeping your elbows off the table while eating. Avoid slouching or leaning too far forward.

  9. Pace yourself with the meal: Try to match the pace of the meal with others at the table. Avoid rushing through your food or being excessively slow, as both can disrupt the flow of the meal.

  10. Be mindful of personal space: Respect the personal space of others at the table by not reaching across them for items. Politely ask for items to be passed to you.

  11. Be considerate with technology: Keep your phone on silent or vibrate mode and avoid using it at the table, unless it's necessary for an emergency. Engage in conversation and be present in the meal.

Remember, table manners vary across cultures and situations, so it's always a good idea to observe and adapt to the specific customs and expectations of the dining environment you find yourself in.
